Constructed in 1979, The Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging is a 15 story, 195,000+/- sf building located in downtown Boston, MA. Located on the corner of Washington and Stuart Street, it's adjacent to the Tufts New England Medical Center. The two 425 ton air conditioning water chillers and one 625 KW diesel electric generator were original to the building and were in need of replacement. While this project is owned by the USDA, the Tufts University facility operations staff will be maintaining the system. Delta provided Mechanical and Electrical services for this project.
The Mechanical services that were provided include the review of the existing emergency generator system including the fuel system, transfer switches, and generator muffler / exhaust system and design of the replacements. The 650 KW generator was replaced with a 750 KW dieselelectric generator. Each chiller was also reviewed and sized for adequate replacement. Design services performed by Delta include floor plans, elevations, details and schedules, as well as a cost estimate.
This project required the compilation of a Project Manual for maintenance staff, as well as coordination with USDA and Tufts University staff.
