This project involved the replacement of a historic truss bridge with an adjacent bridge crossing the Susquehanna River, including the reconstruction and relocation of 800' of approach roadway. The existing truss bridge was rehabilitated to serve as a pedestrian structure. A fishing access point and pedestrian trail were incorporated. This project included extensive coordination with SHPO, NYSDEC, and the US Army Corps. A threatened and endangered species study was required along the Susquehanna River. Also, maintenance of traffic during construction was challenged by the proximity of the new and existing bridges, combined with the significant elevation distance between the two. Services included: preliminary and final bridge and highway design, environmental analyses, river hydraulic study, and construction inspection. This was a locally managed federally funded "pass-thru" project which mandated adherence to NYSDOT design procedures and criteria. |
