Delta's precast design group provided specialty precast engineering services for Modern Precast, Inc., as part of the design and construction of the new Comcast Center building located in Center City, Philadelphia. The new building is a 57-story, 1.2 million square foot office building that will house the Comcast headquarters. When complete, the building will be 975 feet tall and become the 11th tallest building in the United States.
Delta's precast group provide the connection design for a precast concrete panelized water tank that was attached to the internal framing at the top of the structure. The water tank was designed to serve as a damping mechanism during swaying action of the building. Delta's design tasks included the design of over 40 connections that included built-up welded plate connections and post-tensioning of the panel sections using grouted DYWIDAG bars.
Construction of the tank was completed during the summer of 2007. The entire building is expected to be completed in May of 2008. |
