Binghamton University New Academic Building Design

Binghamton University New Academic Building Design

Binghamton University constructed a new satellite campus located within the heart of Binghamton, New York. This 74,400 square foot, four-story, brick and limestone building houses Binghamton University's College of Community and Public Affairs, along with two offices of Broome Community College. In addition to office space, the building also houses 11 state-of-the-art classrooms, conference areas, a combined library and computer pod, student lounge, kitchen, and a coffee kiosk. This was a fast-track multi-phased project - the first of its kind for the State University Construction Fund.

This project is United States Green Building Council (USGBC) registered and in the process of attaining LEED Silver Certification. The LEED features for this project included high-efficiency mechanical equipment and lighting, energy-efficient windows, daylight views, and recycled building materials. Delta’s scope of work involved structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems. Due to the unique design of the glass atrium, a smoke purge system was designed. Delta provided design services for card access, emergency and standby power systems, a fire alarm system, controls for the elevator, as well as the gate control for the parking lot. Electrical services were additionally provided for a 24-hour fire command center and security room, as well as a data distribution center. Mechanical and electrical services were also provided for the storage building located on the premises. Holt Architects performed the architectural design for this project.
